The Westminster Public Schools (WPS) Board of Education is considering recommendations regarding the future use of district resources and school buildings in response to declining student enrollment. The recommendations, developed by the FTFI Committee after detailed research, were shared with the public during a community meeting at Westminster High School on January 13, 2026. The Board has not yet voted on these proposals.

If adopted, the plan would see the Westminster Academy for International Studies (WAIS) move its operations to Harris Park. This transition would allow WAIS’s international studies program to continue within Harris Park, which would expand from serving pre-kindergarten through fifth grade to pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students. WPS leadership stated: “We are proud of the international focus and global learning experiences that make WAIS such a special community and are excited about bringing these opportunities to Harris Park families.”

Originally, the committee suggested implementing this change ahead of the 2027-2028 academic year. However, district officials now recommend beginning the transition in time for the 2026-2027 school year for what they believe is in “the best interest of students and staff at both schools.”

The recommendation will be formally presented to the Board of Education at its February 10th meeting. A final decision will be made at a later date.

Further information about the FTFI Committee’s work and proposed changes can be found on the district’s website.
