Colorado College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
Colorado College freshman Aiden Little was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Newcomer of the Year on Friday after a vole of the league's head coaches.
Little, the first CC men's player to win earn the award since it was instituted prior to the 2014 season, also was the only freshman voted to the all-SCAC first-team. He played every dual match at the No. 1 singles spot for the Tigers this season and posted a 7-5 record against Division III opponents at the position. Little went 3-2 against SCAC foes, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Austin College's Luke Henley in the quarterfinals of the SCAC Tournament, helping the Tigers to a third-place finish, their best since 2018.
The Bradenton, Fla., product helped the Tigers to the most wins (13) in one season since 1981 and the highest regional ranking in program history (#15). CC posted wins over ITA regionally-ranked Hobart (#12), Trinity, Conn. (#16) and Schreiner (#20) during the 2021-22 campaign.
Sophomore Andrew Kaelin was named to the all-SCAC second team for singles after posting an 11-9 record at the No. 2 spot, while senior Jacob Adas and freshman Nate Beerman were selected to the all-SCAC second team for doubles after going 12-4 at the No. 3 position.
"Aiden is the first men's player since I've been at CC to win this award and I couldn't be happier for Aiden," head coach Anthony Weber said. "The whole team should be proud, as his teammates pushed him this season. He has plenty to work on, but his ceiling in high and he will continue to be a strong presence in our program. With four guys named all-conference, I amm excited to see what the next few years bring."
