The Colorado Rapids will face Houston Dynamo FC in their second meeting of the season on May 2. The match is scheduled to take place at Shell Energy Stadium, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Coverage will be available through Apple TV, Altitude Sports Radio, Tico Sports Spanish Radio, ColoradoRapids.com, and the Colorado Rapids app.

Both teams come into this match following wins in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup that advanced them to the tournament’s quarterfinal round. The Rapids recently hosted Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in what was described as a closely contested “I-25 Derby.” After a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time goals from both sides, the game was decided by a shootout where the Rapids prevailed 5-4 after seven rounds. This result secured their first appearance in the quarterfinals since 2007.

Houston Dynamo also earned an Open Cup victory earlier this week by defeating Louisville City at home. That match similarly went to extra time after ending tied at one goal each during regulation play. Ezequiel Ponce scored in the 101st minute to give Houston a win and move them forward in the competition.

The two clubs previously met on April 11, when Colorado recorded its largest win of the season with a commanding 6-2 result over Houston. In that game, Rafael Navarro and Kosi Thompson each scored twice while Josh Atencio added another goal for Colorado. Their performances led to Navarro, Thompson, and Head Coach Matt Wells being named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday.

Navarro remains a key player for Colorado ahead of Saturday’s contest as he has contributed seven goals and six assists across his last ten appearances in all competitions.
