A nurse working at the Adams County Detention Facility was arrested on March 3, 2026, after being suspected of providing synthetic drugs to an inmate. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office began its investigation following a report that “Spice,” a type of synthetic cannabinoid, was being brought into the facility.

Detectives allege that Stephanie Bagwell, 52, supplied an inmate with paper soaked in synthetic cannabinoids while inside a secured area. She was taken into custody the same night.

According to authorities, Bagwell had been employed as a temporary nurse through a contract medical provider and no longer has access to secured areas of the detention facility. The case will be submitted to the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for consideration of formal charges.

Additional suspects have been identified during the investigation, including the inmate involved. Their identities are not being released due to the ongoing nature of the case.
