Malley Transitional Care Center was recognized as the third largest nursing home in Adams County during the first quarter of 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The center offered 162 available beds—36 above the county’s average bed count during the same period—and served an average of 141.9 residents each day throughout that quarter.

CMS awarded Malley Transitional Care Center an overall rating of 2 out of 5, which is lower than the Colorado state average of 3.2 for nursing homes.

Skylake Post Acute reported the highest bed capacity in Adams County for the quarter, with 242 beds available. Veterans Community Living Center at Fitzsimons followed, providing 180 beds.

By the first quarter of 2026, Malley Transitional Care Center had incurred a total of $11,180 in fines and received one penalty.

Adams County was home to 14 for-profit nursing homes in Colorado during the reporting period.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau continue to show the growing older adult population nationwide as the population of children declines. From 2020 to 2024, Americans 65 and older rose by 13%, while the number of people under age 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the nation’s older adult population has increased significantly, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to above 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study estimates almost half of this age group—about 28 million people—may require long-term services and support. The same research projects that more than one-third could eventually need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
