Colorado Rapids defender Lucas Herrington has been named to Australia’s 26-man roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a June 2 announcement from the club. This marks Herrington’s first appearance on a FIFA World Cup squad and comes less than three months after making his senior international debut for the Socceroos.
Herrington, who is 18 years old, joins Head Coach Tony Popovic’s squad following a breakout first professional season in Major League Soccer. The Brisbane native becomes the first active Colorado Rapids player selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will represent Australia at this summer’s tournament in North America.
The defender earned his selection after making his senior international debut for Australia earlier this year. Since debuting against Cameroon on March 27, Herrington has made three appearances—all starts—totaling 225 minutes. Australia won all three matches in which he featured, with victories over Cameroon, Curaçao, and Mexico.
In his debut MLS season, Herrington has started every match for Colorado and logged 1,350 minutes so far this year. He is currently the youngest player in Major League Soccer to play every possible minute of regular season action this season.
Herrington joined Colorado Rapids from Brisbane Roar (A-League Men), where he made 29 appearances and scored two goals after signing with their first team in September 2024. He made his professional debut on December 14, starting against Western Sydney Wanderers. His football career began with Brisbane Roar Youth in 2023 following time at Taringa Rovers and Toowong FC academies.
At youth international level, Herrington has represented Australia at U-18, U-19, and U-20 levels. He appeared four times with the U-19s at the ASEAN U-19 Boys Championship where Australia finished third; later played seven matches with the U-20s as part of their AFC U-20 Asian Cup-winning squad; and also earned four caps with the U-18s.
