Colorado Rapids waive defender Sam Vines after two stints with club

The Colorado Rapids have announced the release of defender Sam Vines, along with a buyout of his contract.

Colorado Rapids President Pádraig Smith stated, “We are grateful to Sam for his contributions to the Rapids over the years. As a Colorado native and Homegrown player, he has been an important part of the club’s history. We appreciate his professionalism and commitment, and we wish him the best moving forward.”

Vines, who is from Colorado Springs, played 116 matches for the club in all competitions during two periods: 2018–2021 and 2024–2026. His appearances included MLS regular season games, MLS is Back Tournament, MLS Cup Playoffs, Leagues Cup, and U.S. Open Cup matches. He scored three goals and provided seven assists during his tenure.

The transaction involves waiving Vines and exercising a buyout of his contract.
