The Colorado Rapids will host the San Jose Earthquakes in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park on May 20, according to a May 2 announcement from U.S. Soccer. The match is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m., with coverage available on CBS Sports Network, Paramount+, Altitude Radio, ColoradoRapids.com, and the Colorado Rapids App.
This matchup is significant as it marks the first time since 2007 that the Rapids have reached the quarterfinal round of this tournament.
The Rapids advanced after a dramatic shootout win over USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The teams were tied at one goal each after regulation time, and both scored again in extra time’s final five minutes. The match was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout that ended with a score of 5-4 in favor of Colorado after seven rounds.
San Jose earned their spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Minnesota United FC with a score of 4-2, highlighted by two goals from Beau Leroux and additional goals from Niko Tsakiris and Jack Skahan. Earlier in their campaign, San Jose began with a win over Phoenix Rising FC in the Round of 32, finishing that game with a scoreline of 2-0 against another USL Championship team.
