The Colorado Rapids announced on Mar. 26 the signing of defender Loïc Williams from Granada CF, a club in Spain’s LaLiga HyperMotion (Segunda División), with a contract that runs through the 2029–30 season and includes a club option for an additional year. Williams will occupy an international roster spot and is expected to join the team in the summer after receiving his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.
The addition of Williams is seen as significant for the Rapids as they look to strengthen their defensive line with international experience. The club believes his skills and background align with their long-term strategy.
“We are excited to welcome Loïc to the club,” said Colorado Rapids Sporting Director Fran Taylor. “He’s a defender who has already gained meaningful experience in Spain’s professional leagues, and we believe his profile fits well with the direction we’re building. Loïc is composed on the ball, competitive, fast, and of course left footed. These are qualities that are rare in the soccer landscape, and we are pleased to secure his signature.”
Williams, age 24, played two seasons with Granada CF in Spain’s second division where he made 62 appearances, scored one goal, provided one assist, and contributed to 14 clean sheets. He also played five matches for Granada CF in Copa del Rey competitions.
Rapids Head Coach Matt Wells said: “Loïc brings athleticism, presence and an elite defensive mentality. He’s played in demanding competitions in Spain, has the required composure and technical ability to play our dominant football but crucially he combines that with a fierce desire to defend. We’re excited that he is joining us despite strong interest from other clubs in Europe.”
Williams developed through several youth systems including Levante, Patacona, Valencia, Girona FC U19s—where he made 19 appearances during the 2020–21 season—and began his professional career at Girona B before playing for CD Atlético Paso and CD Tenerife at various levels of Spanish football.
