The Colorado Rapids defeated Houston in a high-scoring match on April 12, maintaining their unbeaten record at home this season. The team scored six goals, bringing their total to 19 in the first seven matches and surpassing the previous club record of 15 goals set in 1998.
This result highlights the team’s strong start to the season and sets a new benchmark for offensive performance. The Rapids’ attacking play has seen multiple players contribute both goals and assists early in the campaign.
Defender Kosi Thompson made his club debut memorable by scoring twice and assisting another goal, becoming only the third player in club history to record a brace on debut and joining Marcelo Balboa as one of two defenders with such an achievement. Midfielder Josh Atencio also found the net for his first goal with Colorado, while Rafael Navarro added two more goals to his tally, moving into sixth place for most goals scored in club history with 33. Navarro also provided his fourth assist of the season.
Other notable contributions included Georgi Minoungou’s first assist for Colorado and Dante Sealy’s third assist this year. The match saw three players—Ojediran, Herrington, and Thompson—score their first goal for Colorado during their home debuts this season.
The scoring summary listed Thompson (5′, 53′), Atencio (17′), Navarro (73′, 90+5′), and an own goal (90+1′) for Colorado, while Houston responded through Lawrence Ennali (69′) and Guilherme Santos (90+3′).
Looking ahead, Colorado will begin its Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign against Union Omaha on Tuesday, April 14 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park.
