The Colorado Rapids lost 1-0 to St. Louis CITY SC at DICK’s Sporting Goods Park on May 10. The defeat leaves the Rapids with a record of four wins, seven losses, and one draw, placing them tenth in the Western Conference standings.
Both teams began the match cautiously as they searched for attacking opportunities. Early efforts from Darren Yapi and Georgi Minoungou nearly gave Colorado an advantage, but neither attempt resulted in a goal. The first and only goal of the game came in the 26th minute when Sang-Bin Jeong scored for St. Louis CITY SC following a counterattack.
Despite falling behind, Colorado continued to press forward in search of an equalizer but went into halftime trailing by one goal. After the break, the Rapids maintained their offensive approach and created several chances to score.
The momentum shifted in the 51st minute when defender Rob Holding received a straight red card, reducing Colorado to ten men for much of the second half. In response, head coach Chris Armas made several substitutions as his team pushed for a comeback while playing shorthanded.
St. Louis CITY SC was also reduced to ten players after receiving a red card in the 87th minute; however, they managed to maintain their lead until full time and secured all three points from the match.
Looking ahead, Colorado will prepare for their next fixture against Minnesota United FC on Wednesday, May 13 at Allianz Field with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
