The Colorado Rapids advanced to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 after a 1-0 victory over Union Omaha on April 15.
The match marked the Rapids’ return to U.S. Open Cup play since their last appearance in 2023, facing off against USL League One’s Union Omaha, a team that has been among the league’s top sides since its start in 2020.
The only goal came in the 21st minute when captain Keegan Rosenberry forced a turnover deep in Omaha’s end, setting up forward Dante Sealy for his first goal with the club across all competitions since joining this past offseason. The Rapids maintained offensive pressure while limiting opportunities for Omaha, with goalkeeper Nico Hansen making key saves to preserve the lead and secure a clean sheet.
Rapids midfielder Nathan Tchoumba made his debut during the second half, becoming at age fifteen the youngest player ever to appear in a match for Colorado. Both teams focused on defense throughout the remainder of the game, resulting in no further goals and confirming Colorado’s progression to face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the next round at a date yet to be determined.
Looking ahead, Colorado will prepare for its upcoming anniversary match against Inter Miami CF this Saturday at Empower Field at Mile High.
