The Colorado Rapids announced on March 15 that defender Jabari De Coteau has been called up from the club’s MLS NEXT Pro side on a Short-Term Agreement. De Coteau will be available for selection in the Rapids’ regular season match against New York City FC on Saturday, March 14.
This move marks De Coteau’s first of four possible Short-Term Agreements for the 2026 Major League Soccer season. The defender is currently in his first season with Rapids 2 and has started in each of the team’s first two matches this year.
De Coteau was selected by Colorado with the 86th overall pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft before signing an MLS NEXT Pro contract with Rapids 2 on January 26, 2026. The Brooklyn, New York native, who is 20 years old, joined Rapids 2 after three years at Xavier University. During his collegiate career, he made a total of 37 appearances with 15 starts and logged over 1,600 minutes. In the most recent college season, he made a career-high number of starts and was part of Xavier’s squad that won its first-ever BIG EAST Tournament Championship in 2023.
According to the league’s roster rules for the current season, clubs may sign players aged 25 or younger from their affiliate teams to a maximum of four short-term agreements per year. Each agreement can last up to four days and a player may appear on up to four league match rosters but play in no more than two league matches during those agreements. Players are allowed to participate in any number of non-league games while under these contracts.
The club confirmed that De Coteau will be eligible for selection against NYCFC as part of this transaction.
