Adams County Sheriff reports inmate death at detention facility on May 22

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reported on May 22 that a 28-year-old male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Adams County Detention Facility shortly after midnight. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the man was later pronounced dead at Platte Valley Medical Center.

The incident occurred when a deputy conducting routine cell checks discovered the inmate unconscious and not breathing. The deputy removed him from his cell and administered Narcan. Contract medical staff and Brighton Fire Rescue arrived to continue life-saving efforts before transporting the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the press release, “Life-saving measures were attempted before the inmate was pronounced dead at a local hospital.” The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after notifying next of kin and will determine both cause and manner of death.

The Detective Division of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating this incident. No further details have been released regarding circumstances surrounding the event or potential contributing factors.

This investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish what led to the inmate’s death.
