The Colorado Rapids earned their first away victory of the 2026 Major League Soccer season with a 4-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on March 22 at Sporting Park.
The result is significant for the Rapids, who were looking to recover from a previous setback and return to winning form. The team now holds a record of three wins and two losses, placing them fifth in the Western Conference standings.
Colorado started strong, controlling possession and pressing Sporting Kansas City early in the match. The opening goal came after Rafael Navarro set up Darren Yapi, who assisted Paxten Aaronson for his first goal of the night. Despite an equalizer from Shapi Suleymanov just before halftime, midfielder Wayne Frederick restored Colorado’s lead moments later by capitalizing on a loose ball following a corner kick. This marked Frederick’s first career goal in Major League Soccer.
In the second half, the Rapids continued to dominate. In the 71st minute, Miguel Navarro delivered a low cross that Rafael Navarro finished for his 31st goal with Colorado, tying him for sixth-most goals in club history alongside Cole Bassett and Chris Henderson. Aaronson added another goal four minutes later after receiving a pass from Navarro at the top of the box, securing his first career brace. Dante Sealy also contributed an assist—his second this season and fifth overall in MLS.
With this performance, Aaronson and Frederick became the sixth and seventh different players to score for Colorado this year—a figure tied with New York City FC for second-most unique scorers across Major League Soccer so far this season.
Looking ahead, Colorado will stay on the road after the international break to face Toronto FC on April 4 at BMO Field.
